A French maison

Manifesto

THE HOUSE, IN ITS OWN WORDS

A small Maison.

Made in Paris, by hand, since 2021.

ALTO is a French leather goods Maison founded in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. We make a small number of pieces — cut, stitched, and finished by hand by a small team of artisans in our atelier, in roughly forty-eight hours. The editions are limited and numbered. Once they leave, they are final.

We are not in a hurry. We never have been.

MANIFESTO

What we believe.

We make few things.

We make them well.

Leather aged for six weeks.

Stitched by a single pair of hands.

Carried for twenty years —

then repaired, and carried again.

— Louis Alto, founder

THE FOUNDER

A note from the founder.

I started ALTO out of frustration. Every leather bag I wanted to own was either made anonymously in a factory I could not visit, or priced as a status symbol with no relation to the actual work behind it. There was nothing in between.

So I started a small atelier in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. The pieces are cut, sewn, and finished by hand, slowly. The editions are small. We never restock one once it sells out.

If a piece you own ever fails — a stitch, an edge, a clasp — it returns to the same atelier that made it, free of charge, for as long as the piece exists. That is the promise that matters most to me.

If you have a question, write to me directly. I read every letter.

THREE COMMITMENTS

What we promise.

Made in France.

Every piece is cut, sewn and finished in our atelier in Paris 11ᵉ — by a single pair of hands. The number engraved inside tells you whose. We do not manufacture abroad. We do not outsource. We never will.

Repaired for life.

What we make, we mend. Any ALTO piece can return to the atelier for repair — a stitch, an edge, a clasp, a strap — for as long as it exists, by the hands that made it. This is included with every piece. Request a repair →

Numbered editions.

Each edition is made once, in small numbered runs per colour. There is no restock, no hidden warehouse, no second run. This is not scarcity-as-marketing — it is simply the limit of what we can make properly in one season.

THE ROOMS

A Maison is not a brand. It is a place where things are made, kept, and answered for. We try, in our small way, to be that.
